Huawei is seeing significant growth in China’s smartphone market, with sales increasing by 70% year-on-year in the first quarter. Meanwhile, Apple’s sales declined by over 19% in the same period. This has resulted in Huawei closing in on Apple’s market share in China. In the first three months of this year, Apple has fallen to the third spot with a market share of 15.7%, while Huawei’s market share has jumped to 15.5% from 9.3% in the previous year. Apple’s struggles in China have been attributed to Huawei’s strong comeback in the premium segment. Overall, smartphone sales in China grew 1.5% in the first quarter, with local brands Vivo and Honor leading in market share.
